NEW STUDENTS

WHat to expect

  • What if I'm not sure this is right for me?

We are unfortunately unable to offer free trials, but we welcome any prospective students to come and watch a class first before trying it out themselves.

We also offer many low-commitment options such as one-time mat fees at the following prices:

    - Beginner Juniors & Adults: $20/class

    - PreJudo & Adults: $25/class

    - Juniors: $30/class

We also know that buying a uniform can also feel like a commitment, so no gi is required for the first few classes.

  • What will I learn?

Your first judo lessons will cover the fundamentals:

Throwing, Falling, Turnovers, Pinning, and Core Movements of Judo.

These techniques will be further built out as you continue practices.

  • How can I prepare for my first class?

As in all places, it's important to dress for success!

    • Clothes you can move in: Arrive in comfortable clothing - preferably without metal or buttons to avoid scratching other the students and the tatami
    • Slip off footwear: No shoes are allowed on the mat, so wearing sandals or slippers help to get on and off the mat with ease
    • Long hair tied up: To avoid getting your hair accidentally pulled, tie it up and off your neck

    You also might consider bringing:

    • water bottle
    • gym bag to hold belongings while you workout
  • What do I do when I arrive?

    Welcome to the dojo!

Try to arrive 15 mins early to your first class so we have time to check you in at the front desk and make sure all is ready to go.

We have bathrooms, locker rooms, and a water refill station next to our entrance for you to change and fill your bottle, as well as free wifi for you to scroll, a community bookshelf full of books to read, and comfortable chairs for you to relax in until class starts!

Pre-Judo students of any skill level can sign up for regular classes. Our sensei will help teach the fundamentals described above through developmentally-appropriate exercises, games, and play!

Juniors and Adults Beginners have dedicated Beginner classes described below.

Have judo experience?

Juniors and Adults who are comfortable in the judo fundamentals of falling, pinning and throwing are recommended to join a regular class.

HOW IT WORKS

This beginner course is designed to teach the basics of judo to prepare for entry into the regular class,

where you'll continue to develop the techniques you've learned - as well as add more technical and tactical techniques to your toolbelt.

Cost

$20 for each Beginner class

Note: we encourage consistent attendance to foster muscle memory and learning through repetition, especially for falling techniques. Our top priority is safety, so we'll want to ensure you can fall safely before transitioning you to the regular class.
